Our theme for this year’s AHG Summer camp is centered around launching a new era for the camp. We will be launching many things during the week including rockets. The girls attending camp will have the opportunity to complete the Living and Working in Space Merit Badge.
Requirement #8 of the Living and Working in Space Merit badge looks at the limited amount of space an astronaut has to complete their work. In the table below, I have adjusted the space requirements to accommodate a wide number of girls completing this activity.
Using a roll of painters tape and a tape measure you can mark off the appropriate size box for the Explorers to work within.
# of girls | Length | Width |
10 | 8 feet 6 inches | 5 feet 9 inches |
9 | 7 feet 9 inches | 5 feet 2 inches |
8 | 6 feet 10 inches | 4 feet 7 inches |
7 | 6 feet | 4 feet |
6 | 5 feet 1 inches | 3 feet 5 inches |
5 | 4 feet 3 inches | 2 feet 10 inches |
4 | 3 feet 5 inches | 2 feet 3 inches |
3 | 2 feet 7 inches | 1 foot 9 inches |
2 | 1 foot 9 inches | 1 foot 2 inches |
1 | 10.25 inches | 6.85 inches |
Another great resource I located gave the astronaut’s schedule aboard the International Space Station. Check out this link for more information.
