AHG Badge Help – Bible Basics #21

As I shared previously, our PiPa unit has just finished the Bible Basics merit badge.  To complete requirement #21 we examined the life of Priscilla.

Priscilla and her husband, Aquila, appear seven times in the New Testament.  They were not only involved in Paul’s ministry and traveled with him, they were also teachers of the word.   Continue reading “AHG Badge Help – Bible Basics #21”

AHG Badge Help – Bible Basics #17

Our PiPas have been meeting virtually during the Covid pandemic.  We have recently completed the Bible Basics badge.  The hardest part of this badge when meeting virtually is requirement #17.  Since this is not an optional there is no way around it. But our girls did great.  With the help of family they were able to complete requirement #17. Continue reading “AHG Badge Help – Bible Basics #17”

AHG Badge Help – Engineering #1

You probably remember the Sunday School lesson we heard as children about the wise man who built his house upon the rock. And let’s not forget the foolish man who built his house upon the sand.  And of course you have to sing the song with the hand motions.  But there is so much more to this bible story than the engineering truth about needing a firm foundation. Jesus Nut SWAP

This summer our camp theme centered around creations.  We explored God’s creation in a beautiful mountain setting. But we also studied modern inventions.  Since our Pioneer and Patriots attend a longer camp than our Tenderhearts and Explorers, I wanted to develop a SWAP just for the older girls.

Have you heard about the Jesus Nut?  No, not that crazy bible thumbing guy on the corner, yelling at everyone who walks by – the helicopter part.  A Jesus Nut is a slang term used to describe the part of the helicopter that hold the propellers onto the helicopter.  Soldiers and mechanics realized very quickly that this small part, that fits into the palm of your hand, was crucial to the flight.  If the part were to come loose, the helicopter would crash and there was little chance of surviving.  All that was left for the crew to do was pray.   Continue reading “Jesus Nut SWAP”

AHG Merit Badge Help – Pen & Paper #4 – Paper snowflakes

Last week I shared how to create silhouettes, a PiPa requirement for the Pen and Paper Merit Badge.  This week I thought I would share a Tenderheart level requirement.

With the recent flu outbreak, I had the privilege of leading the Tenderheart unit meeting.  Paper snowflakes paired perfectly with the troop devotional that night. God made each of us unique and with different spirits (based on 1 Corinthians 12).

I began the discussion by asking what the girls knew about snowflakes. And was able to move the conversation how each snowflake is different.

From there we created our own snowflakes.  I was surprised how much the girls enjoyed this activity.  Every one of the girls wanted to make multiple snowflakes.  Even the Patriots who stopped by my room after the meeting wanted to get in on the action.
