After one of my amazing Patriots built a scale model of the planets, I was motivated to finish the Space Exploration badge with my unit.
While I do create many of my own activities, sometimes there is no need to re-invent the wheel. Thanks to the internet, someone did the work for me.
Requirement #4 has the girls make a replica of different constellations. I found an amazing resource on the Jesus Without Language website. All I had to do was hit the print button on my computer.
They were nice enough to provide a color version and a black and white option. I went with the black and white option and had the Tenderhearts color the sky. I used black construction paper and stickers to make the “telescope”. We also used hot glue to glue the “telescope” to the project because it dries quickly.

The only work I had to do was look up the different constellations, and print images of the star patterns. It is a little hard to see how a cluster of dots make Orion or Ursa Minor, but Google is a unit leader’s best friend.
NOTE: The requirements have been simplified here. Please be sure to read the full text in the American Heritage Girl Handbook to make sure you fully understand the requirements.
