Today I thought I would finish up the Outdoor Cooking Merit Badge Helps that I had planned. I recently discovered you can cook eggs in a paper bag. Well, let me re-state that – I recently attempted this. I had heard of it before but had never ventured to try it.
The concept is pretty simple. Place 2 slices of bacon in the bottom of a paper bag, top it with eggs, and place it in the fire pit to cook. The last time my family went camping we tried this. We did discover a few things.
- As you can see in the picture our flames were a little high (I will blame this on eager / hungry kids).
- Each bag had a different number of eggs. We found the 2 eggs worked better than 1 and they need to be pre-scrambled.
- When we tried this, the bacon and egg mixture stuck to the bottom of the bag.
- It took approximately 15-20 minutes for the eggs to cook through (I dislike wet eggs).
If you are desperate to complete #21 of the Outdoor Cooking Merit Badge, then go for it. Personally, we will not be attempting this again. The Orange Peel Cupcakes is a better alternative and everyone was very happy with the results.
Ahh that’s a lovely tip.. I dint know this.. 👍must have been an amazing experience..
