A New View

Last week I shared the changes we made to my daughter’s room.  It was a great time for us to be able to finish the Home Decorating Merit Badge.  Here is a peek at the window treatment she made to go with her Denim and Lace Rag Quilt.

After we cut up the jeans we were left with scraps that needed a purpose.  The belt loops were used for the bulletin board but we all know that the pocket is the most important part.  She did not want traditional curtains and thankfully we already had blinds for privacy.  This window topper fit the bill.

We began with a sheet of plywood that was cut a few inches wider than her window and painted it the same color as the walls.  The pockets were arranged so they were a little longer than the board- creating a scalloped-like edge.  Using a hot glue gun made for quick assembly.  Our plan was to screw the board into the wall, so we waited to glue the last few pockets on until after it was mounted (it was easier to assemble on the floor than after it was hung).

NOTE: The requirements have been simplified here. Please be sure to read the full text in the Girl Handbook to make sure you fully understand the requirements.
