Can you guess from last week’s Wordless Wednesday post what my most recent knitting project is?
For Christmas I received several skeins of Red Heart Amigurumi yarn. My first knit was this flying bumble bee. I love the idea behind the product. Red Heart created a skein of yarn with all the colors needed to create the amigurumi associated with their free patterns.
Armed with the free pattern available on Yarnspirations (here), a skein of yarn, and a set of #3 DPN’s I created this guy. It is important to note that this yarn is much smaller than the standard Red Heart yarn but thankfully gauge is not important when making toys so any yarn will work with the pattern.
I did make a few minor modifications to the patterns – first I opted not to use the recommended safety eyes. Instead I used a tiny bit of white puffy paint. Also, I omitted the legs. He seemed fine with out them.
My only complaint about the pattern is that the stinger piece is separate and has to be sewn on and I hate sewing pieces – surely they could have designed this pattern to be worked in one piece.
If crocheting is more your speed, Yarnspirations has a free crochet pattern to match (here).
Happy Knitting.
