Flag day

For those of us who have worn the uniform especially on foreign fields the flag of the United States is more than a symbol of our great country. It is the embodiment of very real sacrifices. It is representative of missed birthdays and holidays for something greater than ourselves. It is the embodiment of lost friends and lost innocence. It is the tangible representation of standing at the front door of a friend in an immaculate uniform to tell her he’s not coming home …

The quote above is from the husband of a dear friend. He is an active duty Naval Officer and an Army veteran.  He has been deployed twice to the Middle East.

Since today is Flag Day, I would ask that you pause to remember all our heroes, past and present, in times of peace or turmoil that have sacrificed to allow us the freedom to display the flag.
