Taco SWAP

Tuesday is known around here as “Taco Tuesday” so my Tuesday SWAP at camp had to be a taco.

To create this swap, I cut little pieces of felt and sewed them together to create tacos.  While I opted to use a sewing machine, they could be done by hand sewing each SWAP.

Here, let me show you how I made these in 5 easy steps… Continue reading “Taco SWAP”

“See Ya Later Alligator” SWAP

I decided to start my return to blogging with the SWAPS I made over the summer.

My regular followers know that I make a different SWAP for each day of summer camp.  This year was a little different because the 2018 AHG Leadership Conference in St. Louis Missouri occurred during the same time.  I had already committed to attend, and meet up with some AHG friends who do not live near me, for a much needed girls weekend before the date and location was announced.  So I was not able to attend camp like I regularly do. Olympic SWAP

Are you enjoying watching the Olympics as much as I am?  Most nights you can find my family in front of the television watching the various athletes compete.  I was reminded of a set of mini-gold medals I made for a previous Olympic themed campout, and thought it would be a great time to share them with you.  These would make great SWAPS.

They are super easy to make, but do require a few days of dry time, so be sure to plan ahead.

SUPPLIES:
1 batch of homemade air-dry clay (recipe here)
Small round cookie cutter (1.5 inched in diameter)
A #10 decorating tip (or other tiny round item to make circle impressions)
Gold metallic craft paint
Small craft paint brush
Ribbon
Hot glue gun with glue
Scissors
Rolling pin
Safety pins

Step 1: Make air-dry clay and allow to cool to room temperature. (Depending on the size of your circle cutter and how many you need you may only need to make 1/2 batch of clay). Recipe found here

Step 2:  Working with a small amount of clay at a time roll it into a sheet just under 1/4 inch think.  Using your round cookie cutter cut out as many circles/medals as you need.

Step 3:  Before the clay begins to harden, use the small end of a #10 decorating tip to create the Olympic rings.  You only want to make a light indention. Be careful not to go all the way through.

Step 4: Allow to dry at least 24 hours.

Step 5: Paint each medal with gold paint, being certain to get into the crevices of the Olympic rings, and the sides.  Allow paint to dry.

Step 6: Place a small loop of ribbon on the back of each medal with a little hot glue, and add a safety pin.

Knitting SWAP

Just in case you have not figured it out by now, YES I AM CRAZY!!!  And I love creating SWAPS for multi-troop events.  To go with my PiPa Needle Arts Badge this summer, I made a knitting SWAP.

I got a few questions about these SWAPS?

  • You mean you can knit with toothpicks?  Yes, you can knit with just about any two round pointy objects.  (I have even seen a pair of square needles, but did not tell them that).
  • Did this take you forever to do?  It did take more time than I usually spend on my SWAPS.  This is definitely not a last-minute SWAP idea.
  • WHY would you do this?  1) I’m crazy. 2) My passion for knitting overflows into every area of my life. 3) Why not!!!
