Blue Bell Hat

Bluebell

Recently I had the chance to test knit two hats for Stana’s Critters. This first hat is my favorite. It resembles a flower. Each petal is knit separately, then joined to form the base of the hat.  It used a little bit of green from my stash to create an i-cord calyx. (Why yes, I do homeschool my children and we recently studies parts of the flower.)

As I told Stana, I love, love, love this hat! I only had one problem with it. My daughter is 11 and thinks she is too big for a hat like this. It would be perfect for a little girl. So I have included in the box of hats to go to the orphanage in Kenya.

When the pattern is released I will update this post.

Happy Knitting.

UPDATE: The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry here.

Chains

While the box of items for Craft Hope has left the house. I still have several items to share with you.  Today’s project is the Circle Chain Hat by Megan Poteete – Johnson.

Circle Hat

I found this pattern on Ravelry. So after I had completed my goal of twelve hats, I knew I wanted to try something a little more than your basic hat. This hat knitted up fairly quickly and the band of circles in a contrasting color made it a little special. I used more of my Red Heart Super Saver Yarn from my stash. The hat was a little small, based on my gauge it should fit the average 8-year-old. But was a little tight on my foam hat head.

If you would like to knit this yourself the pattern can be found for free here.

Snood, Take 2

In April, I showed you the Snood I made for my niece. (See the post here).

While visiting her this summer, she requested I make her another one.

Purple Snood

I used the same Snowflake Pattern, but this time I made the small snood. I believe it fits much better. I used Caron Simply Soft Party yarn in Purple Sparkle from my stash.

She loves it and wears it to ice skating lessons.

One Fish, Two Fish…

I know I have been awol lately. I just can’t seem to get in the grove of life.

But I do have a project to share with you.

Fish

The pattern is another one from Stana’s Critters. You may remember the Teddy Blanket and the Puppy Blanket that I made using her patterns. For this project you will need two different colors of yarn.

If you would like more info on this cute fish, the pattern is available here.

What’s a snood?

Well spring break is over, so back to the blog world. The other day, my sister emailed me a picture of this white circle thing she had bought, but it was too small, asking could I knit one for her. My first question is “What is it?”

Long story short, my niece needs a bun cover to wear ice-skating. My sister had purchased one from Target, but it was too small. While looking for a knitting pattern I learned that the technical name for a bun cover is a snood. Webster defines it as “a net or fabric bag pinned or tied on at the back of a woman’s head for holding the hair”.

snood

I found a free pattern for a snowflake snood here. My niece thought it was a flower pattern. But whatever you call it, it worked great and she loved it.

I used “Jamie” yarn by Lion Brand Yarns in Angel White. I used less than 35 yards of yarn to knit a medium size snood.
