It is officially fall. I’m one happy camper (pun intended).
Now that it is fall a lot of American Heritage Girls troops are planning campouts. I have decided to devote the next couple of Friday posts to camping.
Requirement #14 of the Outdoor Cooking merit badge has the girls create foil meals. This is one meal that works well for the entire group – regardless of which ages are camping. I set up an assembly line and allow the girls to prepare their own meal.
One of the appeals that American Heritage Girls has to many families is the progression of the program. A girl can earn the same badge three times – once as a Tenderheart, once as an Explorer and once as a Pioneer / Patriot. The first badge that my Pioneers have chosen to work on this year is the Outdoor Skills badge. Requirement 19 helps the girls learn axe / hatchet safety along with the parts of the tools.

What separates American Heritage Girls from other girl youth organizations is the spiritual component. AHG encourages girls to strengthen their personal relationship with Christ as they grow to become women of integrity. This is evident not only in our Oath and Creed but, in several of the merit badges.

This week American Heritage Girls (AHG) celebrates it 20th Birthday. Since I love AHG, and a large part of my blog is devoted to that topic, I wanted to devote this week’s posts to them.
