Nine Patch (1 of 3)

Well, today is Black Friday. The turkey has been eaten, the dishes have been cleared and it is time to think about Christmas. Dishcloths make wonderful gifts. Here is the set I just finished.

The first four, from left to right, are a simple seed stitch. We all know that they are the wonderful and have lots of texture but are slow and tedious to make. The next three I designed myself. Today I will focus on the Earthy Orange one on the far right.

Zebra Bowl

In preparation for our move I am preparing to redecorate the kids bedrooms. Lily has decided she wants a purple zebra room. My first little project for her room was a bowl for her to put little things in such as coins, jewelry or any of the little things she does not want to lose.

It all began with a miniature ceramic dish I picked up at the dollar store. I have seen many projects on Pinterest that used a Sharpie to decorate dishes. After some research, I noticed that there were many complaints that the item did not stand up to being washed in the dishwasher. Since that was not an issue I decided to continue.

Using a fine marker I drew a zebra pattern in the bottom of the dish and then baked it at 375* for 45 minutes. I allowed it to cool overnight in the oven.  The next morning I hand washed it. Lily loves it!

Apple Chips

We associate fall with autumn colors, pumpkins and apples. Apples are the perfect fall food. They are crisp and full of flavor. While apples are available all year they are best in the fall when they are fresh. Apples can be used in so many recipes that you cannot go wrong with an apple recipe.

One of my kids favorites is apple chips. They are easy to make, they just take a little time to get them crispy.

APPLE CHIPS
2 granny smith apples
cinnamon and sugar

Peel and slice apples extra thin with a mandolin. Spread in a single layer on a large cookie sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 225 for 90 minutes. Flip apple slices and sprinkle with more cinnamon and sugar. Bake another 90 minutes. Then turn oven off and leave the door shut and allow the apple piece to cool.

I use granny smith apples because they are firm and a little tart. Other variety of apples will work. I find that 2 apples fit well on my large (12×16) cookie sheet. As always feel print the recipe card (Apple chips) and add it to your collection.
