Every year the kids make a new ornament for their tree. Every year we make something different. This year we made crayon ornaments.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
- Clear ornaments from the craft store
- old crayons (or new ones if that is all you have)
- hair dryer
- crayon sharpener (or pocket knife)
- parchment paper
- hot pads (or towel)
Step 1. With the crayon sharpener and crayons, create a pile of shavings. We used 2 or 3 different colors for each ornament. My son opted to use his pocket knife.
Step 2. Remove the spring top from the ornament
Step 3. Create a funnel with the parchment paper and add the crayon shavings to the inside of the ornament. Return the lid to the top of the ornament
Step 4. Holding the ornament with a hot pad, heat the glass with a hair dryer. Rotate the ornament as the wax from the crayon begins to melt. Heat the entire ornament
CAUTION: THE GLASS BECOMES VERY HOT!!!! Adult supervision is needed for this project.
I really enjoyed this years project, for the whole family was able to participate, even the non-crafty members.
Merry Christmas
