This past summer, I taught the Textile Arts Merit Badge at summer camp to an amazing group of Pioneers. In addition to making several textile art projects we learned about the history of quilt making.
I was excited to share with the girls some of my grandmother’s quilts, along with a few that I have made.
I found an amazing website, (www.patternsfromhistory.com) that not only explained the history and significance of many different quilt patterns, but also included actual patterns for making the quilt blocks (which is an important part of the requirement).
Patternsfromhistory.com provides the reader with information on many different quilting patterns, including several alternative names for the blocks. We especially enjoyed the biblical quilt patterns and the important role they played in American History.
wow how fascinating, thanks for all your posts, i am really enjoying the stories and pictures.
