Many of us dislike – yes, loathe is a better word – having to speak in front of a group. Even though being in American Heritage Girls has helped me improve in this area, it can be nerve-wracking.
One of the requirements to earn the Social Skills and Etiquette badge at the PiPa level is to give a short speech. I am currently preparing to teach this badge at camp this summer. One challenge in teaching this at a summer camp is the lack of internet. I have developed a list of speech topics for the class that should not require any research. You probably remember the Sunday School lesson we heard as children about the wise man who built his house upon the rock. And let’s not forget the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. And of course you have to sing the song with the hand motions. But there is so much more to this bible story than the engineering truth about needing a firm foundation. 
Well, here it is the last Friday in February. The new year is already slipping away. Before we know it, spring will be here. But instead of borrowing trouble from tomorrow, I am going to focus on today. I set out to write a series of posts for the Freedom Seekers Merit Badge. I have already posted merit badge helps for the Tenderhearts and Explorers, and don’t want the PiPa’s to feel left out.
