I love the American Heritage Girls Creed. But today I’m changing it read “Owl be compassionate…”

Computer Fun #8
Last spring I shared a printout to help girls at the Pioneer / Patriot Level complete the Computer Fun Merit Badge (HERE). So, I decided it was only fair to create one for the Explorers.
Requirement #10 has the girls research how computer programs are created and the purpose of different commonly used programs. If you right-click the image below you will be able to save a pdf version of the handout I created to help complete this badge. Continue reading “Computer Fun #8”
Shell Necklace
We love living in Florida. While the rest of the country survived a record amount of snow this year, we have watched the azaleas bloom in January. My kids wear shorts 10 months a year and we enjoy the beach all year-long. Even if you do not live in Florida, odds are if you enjoy going to the beach. And you probably have a stash of shells the kids have collected that you do not know what to do with. Why not use them to make cute jewelry while working on the Creative Crafts merit badge.
Doll Bench
The Home Care and Repair merit badge is one of my favorites, especially at the PiPa level. However, since Lily is an Explorer, completing this badge has eluded her. She has put it off because she could not find a project to build from wood that did not involve a kit. Finally, a decision was made – a simple bench for her American Girl Doll.
Water Conservation
“Water, water, everywhere. Nor any a drop to drink.”
This famous line from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem”The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” is known by many. We too are surrounded by water (70% of the earth’s surface), yet only a small amount is suitable for drinking. The Caring For My Environment merit badge focuses on being good stewards of the natural resources that God has given us. This goes back to the being responsible portion of the AHG Oath.
Requirement #10 has the Explorer level girls make a list of the at least 5 ways to conserve water at home. I created a simple printout for the girls to use with this requirement. (Right click on the image below to save a pdf version for your use.) Continue reading “Water Conservation”
