Teapot Dishcloth

Do you ever get songs stuck in your head while knitting. Maybe it’s just me, but I could not help but sing “I’m a little teapot, short and stout…” while knitting up this dishcloth.

Using a pair of size 6 needles and a skein of Torrent Blue cotton yarn by Bernat, I tackled the free teapot pattern I found on Ravelry by Louise Sarrazin (here). I did alter the edge of the pattern to create a smoother edge. On each row I slipped the first stitch purl-wise. The final product was much larger than I was anticipating, approximately 10 x 10 inches before being washed. Hopefully it will shrink a little when I wash it the first time and will be able to fit into my drawer.  This pattern knitted up quickly and easily and the final product is quite lovely.

Now to brew me another cup of hot tea on this cold winter day and start my next project.

January Dishcloth

Did you know that there is 354 days till Christmas? For us crafters it’s never to early to start thinking about Christmas.  My knitted dishcloths have been a hit, and my sweet sister even requested another set for Christmas 2015.

Via Pinterest, I found a blog post on Kathleen’s Creations blog where she donated a set of 12 dishcloths to charity, one for each month of the year. Each dishcloth was a different color and matched the month. I loved the idea so I have decided to adapt the idea to work for me.  I have been scouring the internet looking for free patterns that will make dishcloths that are the same size to create a set for Christmas 2015.

For January, I purchased a couple skeins of Robin Egg blue by Sugar ‘n Cream and knitted up a snowflake pattern by Monnibo Designs that I found on Ravelry (here). It should come as no surprise to you that I changed the border on the pattern by slipping purl-wise the first stitch of each row in order to create a smoother border. I also used a size 6 needle, instead of the size 7 she recommends.

If you are interested in the set, check back on the first Monday of each month a new pattern.

Nine Patch (1 of 3)

Well, today is Black Friday. The turkey has been eaten, the dishes have been cleared and it is time to think about Christmas. Dishcloths make wonderful gifts. Here is the set I just finished.

The first four, from left to right, are a simple seed stitch. We all know that they are the wonderful and have lots of texture but are slow and tedious to make. The next three I designed myself. Today I will focus on the Earthy Orange one on the far right.
