March Dishcloth

With St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th, I could not pass up on this cute dishcloth for the month of March. While I am not fond of green beer or believe in “luck”, I love the symbolism of the shamrock. Legend says that St. Patrick used the shamrock to help explain the Trinity to the people of Ireland.

March Dishcloth

To make this dishcloth I began with Rhonda White’s free pattern posted on Knttingknonsence.com (here) and a skein of Hot Green yarn by Sugar ‘n Cream.  For once I did not change the pattern, but knitted it up as written, other than changing the needle size to 6 (as I do with all of my dishcloths). As always, Rhonda White has done an excellent job. I love the seed stitch edging that the pattern uses.

My Whole Heart

Well Valentine’s Day is come and gone and so is the chocolate, but the dishcloths are still here and are used all year long at my house. I wanted to share with you my last heart dishcloth for the season.

This is a simple square cloth with a seed stitch border. I used my favorite #6 needles and “Bright Pink” cotton yarn by Peaches & Creme.

February Dishcloth

As I shared in January, my goal for Christmas 2014 is to make several sets of dishcloths to give as gifts. Each set will have 12 dishcloths, one for each month. Instead of waiting till the end of the year to work on the project, I plan to knit a few each month so that by December, they will be complete. Well, enough rambling, here is the February installment of the set.

Heart dishcloth - 1

This pattern was designed by Emily Jagos and can be found here for free.

As always I used my size 6 needles so my finished project was a little smaller (8 inches x 8 inches). I choose “Bright Pink” by Peaches and Creme. I like the edging on this dishcloth. So often, dishcloths with images to not have much texture and this one solves that problem by adding a little extra texture around the edge.

Happy knitting!

Free Yarn

What do you do when you get some wonderful yarn that’s FREE? You find a project and knit it up.

My sweet sister gave me a skein of multi-colored bulky yarn. Too be honest, I’m not sure the brand or color name, for there was no label. With only one skein, I opted to make a baby blanket.

Baby blanket

I used almost every inch of yarn. I simply cast on 55 stitches with my #10 needles and knitted in a simple garter stitch until I was almost out of yarn. Then I casted off and wove in the ends. The result was a super cute baby blanket.

The only thing left to do was decide what to do with it. Thankfully we are past the baby phase around here, as are my sister and sister-in-law. But with the help of the internet, I found a solution – Stitches From the Heart.

Stitches from the Heart, with the help of volunteers all over the country, donates baby items to families of NICU babies. After having a niece that spent almost 3 months in the NICU when she was born with a heart defect, helping another family touched me. That time in the life of our was very stressful and we relied on prayers to get us through. I’m hopeful that this simple gift will be a blessing to another family at a difficult time.
