National Gumbo Day

As the weather is starting to turn cooler and we are longing for something warm and comforting, gumbo is the perfect dish. Gumbo is a hearty stew-like dish loaded with flavor, and a little bit of spice, served over a bowl of steaming hot rice. I have shared my recipe in January (here). So head on over and make a pot for dinner tonight or print the recipe to save for another night.

Gumbo has always been a sore subject at my house. I grew up eating gumbo with okra. My husband detests okra. Not only does he not like the texture of boiled okra, he also hates the taste and will not even eat fried okra. So, for most of our marriage I made it without. But it was never quite right. My husband knowing how much I missed okra finally agreed to let me add it. Since then, he has come to accept okra and has encouraged me to make it with okra ever since.

Happy Gumbo Day!

Day 11 of Rebecca-fest

Today was not only the 11th day of Rebecca-fest it was also our 16th Wedding Anniversary. Today I got double gifts. My kids gave me my daily birthday present – two pieces of Willow Tree for my collection. The boy looks like my son, while the girl looks like my daughter. Later this evening my hubby gave me the larger piece. It looks like our family. I cannot wait to move so I have a place to display them.

Day 10 of Rebecca-fest

Today’s gift was a little more exciting for me. I received a “Lens Cap Keeper”. Last year I received a DSLR for Christmas. I love my camera. I have not had the time I want to learn how to use it properly, and treat it more like a point and shoot than anything, but there are dreams of one day improving my photography skills. Until then…

Long story short I am forever laying my lens cap down and loosing it. My problem has been solved. Lens Cap Keeper to the rescue. As soon as I took this picture I opened the package and put it on.

Craft Hope Project 23 announced

In May I shared that I had knitted a hat and scarf for Craft Hope (see post here). Craft Hope has just announced their next project that I hope to be able to participate in – making pillowcase dress for girls around the world. I cannot wait to get home and make some of these. If you would like to know more about Craft Hope and this project visit their website at www.crafthope.com. I will update when I have a chance to make a few.
