I found a free pattern courtesy of ChemKnits (here). The pattern is designed to fit a newborn, but can be enlarged by increasing the cast on edge by 12 stitches. The lace chevron pattern is created using a double centered decrease (Slip 2 stitches together knit-wise, Knit 1, pass slipped stitches over) and yarn overs.
I only wish I had more time to knit more of these adorable hats.
