AHG Badge Help – Special Delivery #1

As I child I began collecting stamps. It is something my father still enjoys.  I was a little disheartened to see that AHG was discontinuing the Special Delivery Merit Badge.  I realize that the times have changed and society no longer uses snail mail.  Writing letters is a lost art form.

Personally, my family has been relying on the US Postal System more in the last 6 months then we have in a very long time.  With my son in the Army now, snail mail has been the only way we can communicate with him during his initial training.  I find myself waiting for the mailman to come each day, in hopes of a letter from my son.  Enough rambling and on to today’s merit badge help – Special Delivery requirement #1… Continue reading “AHG Badge Help – Special Delivery #1”

Spring Break in Washington DC

I have had several requests to update my list of badge requirements that can be covered while in the DC area.  With the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival and Spring Break around the corner, I thought now would be a great time.

Having family in the DC area has allowed us to visit on multiple occasions.  Every time we go we find something we missed before.  There is so much to do, that it is not possible to visit all of the places. AHG Badge Help – Social Skills and Etiquette #19

Many of us dislike – yes, loathe is a better word – having to speak in front of a group. Even though being in American Heritage Girls has helped me improve in this area, it can be nerve-wracking.

One of the requirements to earn the Social Skills and Etiquette badge at the PiPa level is to give a short speech. I am currently preparing to teach this badge at camp this summer. One challenge in teaching this at a summer camp is the lack of internet. I have developed a list of speech topics for the class that should not require any research.
